Sunbathing Turtles
The lake level has dropped enough to expose the nest but we’ll need a couple more inches before it will be useful for incubating eggs. Meanwhile, the loons have been showing a lot of interest in a nearby tussock. There is no guarantee that the loons will use last year’s nest but, because they had a successful hatch last year, it is highly likely.
The painted turtles have found the partially exposed nest to be a great spot for sunbathing. But when the time comes the loons will have no problem evicting the turtles.
