Household Hazardous Waste Sites that Now Accept Lead (Pb) Fishing Tackle

Got an old fishing tackle box in your house?

While you’re gathering up old pesticides, herbicides, cleaners, and other household chemicals for proper disposal to protect your drinking water, why not gather up toxic lead (Pb) fishing tackle for proper disposal to protect New Hampshire’s wildlife? Your municipality’s Household Hazardous Waste collection days are a great time to check your fishing tackle boxes for lead. Click HERE for tips on how to identify lead fishing tackle.

We’re pleased to announce that Loon Preservation Committee (LPC) is partnering with many Household Hazardous Waste coordinators to collect toxic lead (Pb) fishing tackle. A special thank you to Vickie Davis of the Upper Valley Regional Planning Commission for working to get this partnership launched.

New Hampshire law bans the sale and freshwater use of lead fishing tackle weighing one ounce or less. Lead poisoning from this banned tackle is the largest known cause of death for adult loons in New Hampshire. Using non-lead fishing tackle and properly disposing of your old lead tackle protects loons and other wildlife from lead poisoning.

You can dispose of toxic lead (Pb) fishing tackle at your municipality’s Household Hazardous Waste collection if you live in (click on your Town for times and locations):
