One Egg Hatched; One Egg to Go
The first of the two eggs has hatched. Hard to say exactly when but it was right around midnight. So it hatched on either June 20 or 21. Let’s call it June 21 so it can be a solstice chick. The pip was first noticed around 4:30 in the afternoon. By nightfall you could hear faint squeaks as the chick continued to work its way out of the shell. At 12:06 am Dad got up to do an egg roll and there was only one egg visible but Dad was concentrating on one area that was obscured by foliage. From then on it was apparent that he was protecting a moving chick under his left wing.
It wasn’t until daylight that anyone got a good look at the chick. Mom took over around 6:30 am. The nest change allowed the chick’s YouTube debut.
