Dana and Bob will focus on “What is a hummingbird?” and their personal adventures
with ten different, remarkable species seen on their journeys in the Americas. They will
also share results of recent research giving deeper insights into the wonders of this
family – how they evolved, pollination through nectar gathering, their diet of insects
and nectar, nectar feeding technique, use of torpor, how iridescence is produced, and
their courtship.
In an ongoing effort to educate the public about loons, we host a number of fun and informative events through the year, for example, talks, cruises, festivals, and fundraisers.
